Reading City Football Club is delighted to be partnering with the Big Match again. In December we hosted a very entertaining festive themed match as Team Elf took on Team Santa to raise funds for the Big Match 2020, which is an annual charity football event and family fun day that raises money for Action for Children and The Brain Tumour Charity.

This weekend we will be hosting a charity football tournament on Saturday 29th August as the Big Match help a very special 5 year old boy called Tony who is a double amputee who suffered horrific abuse from his birth parents as a baby. He was minutes from death when the remarkable NHS doctors and nurses saved him.

Earlier this year Tony made the news as he was raising money for the Evelina Children’s hospital by walking 10k throughout June.

Previously the Big Match organisers have raised £2,500 for Tony to help cover the cost of an outdoor safe play area for him. In fact it was used to create a football area as he is mad on football, they’ve now decided to help him and his family again so that they can get the things they need to give Tony the best possible future.

Here’s what you need to know ahead of the game

The tournament which will feature 4 teams will start at 14:30 as Covid Cavaliers take on Furlough Rovers in the first game of the afternoon. Each fixture will last half an hour with no breaks, but will have rolling subs.

Other teams taking part are Lockdown United and La Corona FC.

As of the 22nd August we are permitted to welcome spectators to the Rivermoor, so if your loved one is playing or you just fancy coming along for what will be an entertaining afternoon, please note it will cost £2 to watch and all proceeds will go towards support Tony and his family.

Our bar will be open and we serve a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks

The ground will be opening from 13:30.

The Rivermoor has full social distancing in place and is COVID-19 compliant.

If you can’t make it to the Rivermoor but would still like to support this fantastic cause, please donate what you can here.
