On Saturday 29th January, Reading City Football Club welcomed the Right Worshipful Mayor of Reading, Councillor Rachel Eden to the Rivermoor along with her mayoral party to watch our Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North Clash.
Arriving before kick-off there was time for the Mayoral Party to see our facilities before heading to the boardroom where they would meet Chairman Martin Law, Club Treasurer Victoria Pyke, First Team Manager Simon Johnson and our Head of Media & Marketing, Ryan Sheehan where we outlined our vision as a club and how that benefits the community of Reading.
As Kick-Off approached the Mayoral Party were escorted pitchside where alongside representatives from our 27 youth teams, the Mayor of Reading, Councillor Rachel Eden would walk the players of both sides out on to the pitch and present them with the match ball.
It was then time for the Mayoral Party to take their seats and watch the game get underway.
At half-time the Mayoral Party had the opportunity to learn more about the club as they returned to the warmth of the boardroom for the interval where they were able to enjoy our special cupcakes.
The Mayoral Party would then witness one of the craziest second halves ever witnessed at the Rivermoor as our opposition were shown 5 red cards, leaving the referee no choice but to abandon the game.
Despite the game ending abruptly the Mayor of Reading and her Mayoral Party enjoyed their visit to the Rivermoor and are now part of the City fanbase.
Thank you so much to everyone at @ReadingCityFC – the club is a credit to Reading – an absolute pleasure, we’ll be back
