Simon Johnson’s Cityzens return to Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North action this afternoon when they travel to Surrey to, face high-flying British Airways FC.
Johnson will be hoping his side can put an end to their poor away form which has seen us suffer a league defeat and an FA Cup exit on the road at this early stage of the season.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
British Airways Football Club began as the works team for BOAC in 1947 and merged with the British European Airways team in 1982. The club, with over 200 members, achieved significant success in various leagues, including multiple titles in the London Commercial League and a record nine Middlesex County Intermediate Cup wins. After joining the Middlesex County League in 2007, they won the Premier Division in 2012–13 and again in 2017–18, leading to promotion. In 2023–24, they finished as runners-up in Division One, winning the promotion play-offs to reach the Premier Division North.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
This is our first meeting with British Airways who are enjoying their first season at Step 5 having secured promotion from Combined Counties Football League Division One via last season’s play-offs.
City come into this game well-rested as Simon Johnson’s side haven’t been in action since Friday 23rd August in which we got our Isuzu FA Vase campaign off to a perfect start with a 3-2 win against Abingdon United.
British Airways however have seen their games come thick and fast, with back to back league games on Saturday 24th and Tuesday 27th August.
British Airways are currently flying high and are enjoying a three-game unbeaten run and sit in eighth.
City will be looking to put points on the board and chase the pack as our league campaign hasn’t really got going yet, having only played two games meaning that we currently sit in fifteenth.
