Simon Johnson and his Cityzens will welcome Wembley to RG30 this afternoon as the Rivermoor Festival of Football continues, this is our second of four consecutive home games for supporters to enjoy this September.

After Tuesday’s narrow loss to Holyport in a Berkshire derby, the Cityzens will be looking to put points on the board this afternoon.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION

Wembley FC was founded in 1946 during the post-World War II football boom, formed from two local junior clubs. The team quickly found success, winning the Middlesex Senior League in 1947–48 and the Spartan League in 1950–51. Over the years, they competed in various leagues, including the Delphian, Corinthian, Athenian, and Isthmian leagues, achieving notable cup runs and league promotions.

The club reached the FA Cup First Round in 1980–81 and won several Middlesex County Cups during the 1980s. Wembley FC experienced highs and lows in the 1990s and early 2000s, including relegations and cup finals. A notable moment came in 2012 when Budweiser sponsored the club, leading to media attention and the recruitment of high-profile former players, although none made competitive appearances. Despite these developments, the club continued to face challenges and is currently part of the Combined Counties League.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

In our past six meetings with today’s visitors the Cityzens have won 2 times and Wembley FC has won once, whilst 3 fixtures ended in a draw.

City come into this game on the back of a narrow home defeat to local rivals and fellow promotion contenders Holyport on Tuesday night in which the game finished 2-3.

Wembley however come into the game on the back of a win having beaten Virginia Water away from home on Tuesday night, the game finishing 1-2.

SQUAD NEWS

Super Bobbi Emery unfortunately suffered a concussion in the British Airways fixture so will be unavailable for two weeks. Alfie Grant returns to the squad next week.

Pele Hagger and Lamin Sankoh are both away this week with weddings and work, so there will be an opportunity for others to come in.
