A look ahead to Saturday’s Berkshire Derby as we host Berks County in Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North action in what will also be the first competitive meeting between the two clubs.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Berks County FC has an intriguing history marked by steady growth and notable achievements. The club’s origins trace back to 2009, with the founding of two clubs by Richard Lloyd and Steve Kay, who remain actively involved as President and Secretary, respectively. These roots set the foundation for the 2014 merger of Bracknell Rovers and Sunninghill Saints, which marked the establishment of Berks County’s senior team. Their inclusion in the Thames Valley Premier League signified their initial steps into competitive football.
A significant milestone came in 2021 when the club was admitted to the Combined Counties League Division One, showcasing its ambitions for higher-level football. By the 2023–24 season, the team achieved promotion to Step 5 of the National League System, underlining their rapid progress within English football’s league structure.
Berks County has also made strides in national competitions, entering the prestigious FA Vase in the 2021–22 season and the FA Cup in 2024–25, marking their presence on the broader footballing stage. These developments reflect the club’s growing stature and aspirations.
