This Saturday will see Simon Johnson and his City Firsts welcome British Airways to the Rivermoor for the very first time in Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North action following our visitor’s promotion to Step 5 this season.

With both sides having games in hand on the rest of the league, it should be an exciting game as both City and the Airways will know that a win will help them soar to new heights.

We ho-ho-hope that you can join us at the Rivermoor for our final home game before Christmas.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION

The British Airways Football Club traces its origins to the BEA Silver Wing Club (1947) and BOAC Speedbird Club (1957), merging in 1974 when British Airways was formed. Initially successful in local leagues, both clubs boasted numerous achievements, including league titles and cup wins.

Over the years, BAFC fielded multiple teams across various leagues, with notable successes such as the Middlesex County Premier Cup (1996/97), Intermediate Cup (9-time winners), and league titles in the London Commercial League and Middlesex County Football League. In 2023/24, the first team was promoted to Step 5 in the Combined Counties Premier Division North.

Despite a decline in grassroots football reducing their teams from 11 to 1 by 2022/23, the club remains competitive, with a strong first team and exciting prospects for the future.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Johnson’s Cityzens have faced British Airways already this season, the first competitive meeting between the two sides took place on August 31st and ended in a 3-3 draw.

Coming into Saturday’s game. Johnson’s side are very well rested as due to the recent adverse weather they’ve not had a game in three weeks, having last played Broadfields away on Saturday 23rd November.

Our visitors however will be looking to return to winning ways, having last played at home to Bedfont Sports on Tuesday 3rd December losing 0-3. Prior to that they ended November with a 1-4 win away to Wallingford and Crowmarsh.
