Penn & Tylers Green u23s
P-P

A break in league action this weekend as Sheldon Baptiste’s side look to start their second cup run of the season positively. After securing a bye in the first round, our young Cityzens are set to host the match down at the Atrium on the first of February.

Our opposition, who typically participate in Division One of the Thames Valley Premier League, faced local-side Reading YMCA in the first round, earning their way into the next with a comprehensive 4-2 victory.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITIONWith reference to FCHD.info

Previously competing under the alias of ‘Penn and Tylers Green Reserves,’ the side first competed in the Chiltonian League reserve division, which was soon merged to form ‘Division Two.’

In the 1995/96 campaign, they earned the title of champions, with fourteen wins in twenty, moving up to Division One. They participated in this league until 2000, before the Chiltonian League Division One was eventually merged into the reserve divisions of the Hellenic League.

In 2011/12, these divisions were combined with the main structure of the Hellenic League, and Penn & Tylers Green Reserves placed in runner-up position three years later, narrowly losing out on the title to Stokenchurch. However, they still earned promotion to the next tier. They became Division One champions the following year, six points clear of runners-up side Thame United reserves.

In 2018, the side changed their name to ‘Penn and Tyler’s Green Development,’ however reverted back to their original name three years later.

2022 saw the side depart from the Hellenic League, making the switch to the Thames Valley Premier League the following year, entering Division Two. In their first season, 47 points from a possible 54 meant the team earned promotion into the next tier.

At the start of the campaign, they became known as the ‘Penn & Tylers Green U23s’, participating in Division One. Currently, with three wins and two draws in eight, they sit in eighth position.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

This will be the first meeting between the two teams, however our opposition have faced our Reading City Cityzens squad on two occasions, then named our ‘Development’ team, back in league action last year.

The home tie ended with a 7-4 victory to Penn and Tylers Green, with a second half comeback confirming their win, despite a strong showing from our Cityzens, with the halftime score 3-1 in favour of our boys in blue. As well as this, our away meeting ended in a 4-0 win back in September 2023 for this weekend’s away side.
