On a beautiful spring afternoon, Simon Johnson’s side welcomed Broadfields United to the Rivermoor. With the sun shining down on West Reading a large crowd had gathered to roar the Cityzens on towards victory for our third of five consecutive games here in RG30.

Our visitors took the lead with quarter of an hour played. Rhys Ellis decided to strike from the edge of the area, and the ball was turned in on it’s way by Lucas Sinclair.

As the half hour mark approached, City gifted the opposition their second goal of the afternoon after accidentally turning a cross from Broadfield’s Jordan Grey into the city net.

As half-time approached, City found their first goal of the game. A long-throw from Eddie Lazarczuk was helped on and Alfie Grant took advantage of the free header at the back post to give us a way back into the game.

The referee then called time on the first half and City would go in trailing by just the one goal.

HALF TIME: Reading City 1 v Broadfields 2

With the second half back underway, City returned to the pitch and following Simon Johnson’s half-time team-talk flew out of the traps.  With fifty-two minutes gone, Eddie Lee who is currently on loan to us from Flackwell Heath made a beautiful run following a fantastic drop kick from Yorkie and was able to beat Matt Burrows to level the scores.

With the hour mark approaching, City would find themselves leading for the first time as Eddie Lee bagged himself a brace.

Joe Pilling found himself in the referee’s book.

With sixty eight minutes on the clock, Simon Johnson introduced Lucas Taplin in place of Lucas Wynn.

With nine minutes of regular time remaining, City as good as clinched all three points when Nathaniel Boakye who returns to the club for the last eight games scored our fourth of the afternoon.

Simon Johnson then made a double substitution as Eddie Lazarczuk and Joe Pilling were replaced by Harvey Collins & Jay Herbert.

With just two minutes remaining, Simon Johnson called on his bench for the final time with Bobbi Emery being introduced for Skipper Josh Baines.

Broadfield United also went down to ten men as Captain Lewis Batten was sent for an early bath.

The referee called time on proceedings here in West Reading and our North-West London visitors wait for a league win here in RG30 continues.
