We look ahead to a busy week for our Under 18s as they will be in Cup and League action in the space of 48 hours.

Monday evening sees them head to Oxfordshire to face North Leigh in the Second Round of the Allied Counties Youth Football League Subsidiary Cup having beaten Ash United 1-3 in the First.

Then on Wednesday they’ll face Wokingham Town in an RGClásico, here at the Rivermoor as they return to league action and continue to fight their way to the summit of the Central Division. A win on Wednesday night will mean we go top with two games to go!

A look ahead to Monday night’s cup clash…

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION

North Leigh Football Club, founded in 1908, gained prominence after World War II, winning the Witney and District League Premier Division seven times in the 1950s and excelling in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup. In the 1980s, they secured five consecutive Witney League titles, earning promotion to the Hellenic League. The club enjoyed strong performances, winning the Premier Division title in 2001/02 and retaining it in 2002/03. Despite ground limitations preventing promotion, they had notable FA Vase and FA Cup runs, including reaching the FA Vase last 32 in 2003/04 and a memorable FA Cup run in 2004/05.

HEAD TO HEAD

Our Under 18s have already faced North Leigh twice this season.

The first ever competitive meeting against our Oxfordshire counterparts took place on Friday 4th October 2024 in the Second Round Qualifying of the FA Youth Cup. This season our FA Cup campaign featured a combined Reading City Football Club and John Madejski Academy squad and they beat North Leigh 2-0 here at the Rivermoor.

Our Youngsters also ended North Leigh’s Allied Counties Youth Football League Cup campaign in the First Round with a 3-0 win here at the Rivermoor on Tuesday 29th October 2024. We would then go on to beaten by Abingdon United in the Second Round.

Our youngsters will be looking to inflict further misery on their Oxfordshire counterparts tomorrow evening but will be wary that North Leigh will no doubt want revenge!

City come into this game, unbeaten in 8 games across all competitions having most recently beaten Ash United 1-3 on Thursday 13th March in the First Round of the Group Stages in the Allied Counties Youth Football League Subsidiary Cup.

North Leigh come into this game on the back of a 1-3 defeat at home to fellow Oxfordshire side Wallingford & Crowmarsh in the Allied Counties Youth Football League North Division. They are yet to record a victory this year.
