We are so proud of our Under 14s Athletic side who have today secured the Oxfordshire Youth Football League Division E title with a game to spare, earning their second promotion in consecutive seasons having won the Oxfordshire Youth Football League’s Autumn Division G South in 2023/24.

They are also on course to do the double for a second consecutive season as they’ve reached the final of the Under 14 KO Shield, the Oxfordshire Youth Football League’s Cup. Last season they were crowned champions of the U13 KO Shield.

We got the thoughts of a Jubilant Jethro Johnstone (Manager) and Neil Cotterell (Assistant Manager) after the game and here’s what the duo had to say:

“The boys have only been beaten once all season which is testament to the work rate of the whole team. It’s been a really exciting league campaign for all involved as fellow Tilehurst club Barton Rovers have pushed us all the way throughout the season and finish as runners-up”.

Jethro Johnstone (Under 14s Athletic Manager)

“It’s been a cracking season and the boys have been superb. We have the Cup final to come now for the double”.

Neil Cotterell (Under 14s Athletic Assistant Manager)

Club Chairman, Martin Law had this to add:

On behalf of the board of Directors I would like to thank Jethro & Neil, the coaches, the parents and most importantly the players for their continued hard-work and dedication. To achieve back-to-back promotions is an incredible triumph and the boys will make memories that will last a lifetime, which is why we do what we do. Here at Reading City Football Club we love to see our youngsters flourish in an inclusive, safe and positive environment where they can have fun whilst playing football.

We are excited for the cup final and have everything crossed that the lads can end the season with the double, for the second time in the season.

Year after year, we see lots of fantastic work being done throughout our Youth Academy to achieve moments like this, so a heartfelt thank you to all our managers, coaches, parents and of course the players who dedicate their time to attend training in the week and at weekends to attend games, that dedication is key to our success.”
