Johno’s youngsters currently sit top of the Allied Counties Youth Football League Central Division with just two games go in the league. But that’s not the only silverware they are hunting as we approach the end of the season as they are also competing for the Allied Counties Youth Football Subsidiary Cup.
Since beginning their cup campaign in March they have gone on to win on the road to Ash United and North Leigh, they’ll be hoping to make it three wins from three cup clashes when they head to Yateley United on Wednesday evening.
The Subsidiary Cup works in a similar format to the UEFA Champions League in which our youngsters will initially play 4 games and if we finish in the top 8, we’ll qualify for the quarter finals. They are currently well on their way to achieving that.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Yateley United F.C. was formed in 2013 through the merger of Yateley, Yateley Green, Yateley Youth, and Beaulieu. Yateley F.C. itself was founded in 1902, with various name changes and league shifts over the years, including a stint in the Combined Counties League. After Yateley Town and Yateley Green split in 1985, Yateley Green played in different leagues, including the Hampshire and Wessex leagues, before merging into Yateley United.
The new club initially played in the Surrey Elite Intermediate League, then dropped to the Surrey County Intermediate League in 2017. They moved up to the Hellenic League Division Two and later joined the Thames Valley Premier League, where they won the title with a perfect record in 2022–23. As a result, Yateley United earned promotion to Division One of the Combined Counties League for the 2023–24 season.
HEAD TO HEAD
This will be the first meeting between our Under 18s and their Hampshire Counterparts.
Our youngsters come into this game in very good form, having gone unbeaten in ten consecutive games in all competitions. They come into Wednesday night’s game on the back of a 5-0 RGClásico win against local rivals Wokingham Town here at the Rivermoor on Wednesday 26th March, which saw them cruise to the top of the Allied Counties Youth Football League Central Division.
Our Hampshire counterparts compete in the South Division of the Allied Counties Youth Football League where they currently sit in fifth place.
They also come into Wednesday night’s game on the back of a win having beaten Ash United in the Second Round of the Subsidiary Cup Group Stages.
