Hidden behind the A329 Oxford Road and Great Western Main Line, some people might not even know Reading City Football Club was there, but not anymore!
We were recently approached by Reading Borough Council as their Communications Team wanted us to feature in their Community Campaign ‘Your West Reading’ where residents share their stories about what makes the area home, local hidden gems, what they love about where they live and what makes their community so wonderfully unique across the borough.
You can watch our ‘Your West Reading’ feature which features our Chairman, Marketing, Media & Engagement Lead, and one of our loyal supporters here.
On behalf of everyone at Reading City Football Club we would like to thank Reading Borough Council for giving us this amazing oppurtunity to feature in this brilliant community campaign. As a non-profitable organisation we hope that it will attract some more prospective supporters to our great community club.
‘Your West Reading’ is their penultimate campaign in the series with ‘Your Tilehurst’, ‘Your Town Centre’, ‘Your South Reading’ , ‘Your East Reading’ and ‘Your Caversham’ having preceeded.
It really does mean a lot to us as since moving into Scours Lane in 2016, then known as Highmoor Ibis we have been proud to be a part of the local West Reading Community. Fast forward nine years and the Rivermoor Stadium is now the hub of the local non-league football community hosting around 60 games every season from our own fixtures to community cup clashes.
In 2018, we took the difficult decision to rebrand from Highmoor Ibis to Reading City as we wanted a name that better reflected the area that we served but to also give Reading a non-league club the whole town can be proud to be associated with.
In 2023 we took the decision to launch new club values, based on the iconic Maiwand Lion, more commonly known as the Forbury Lion. Understanding the importance a community can have on a football club, our club values have paved the way for us to become more than just a football club, but a force for good within the local community whether it be partnering with Launchpad, Reading’s homeless prevention charity or working with local organisations such as Reading Buses & Reading College.
Each and everyday we are passionate about representing Reading and it’s community at all times.
We are Reading City Football Club and we are proud to be ‘The Pride of Reading’.
If you’ve yet to come down to the Rivermoor and see what we’re all about then please do. Everyone who comes through the turnstiles is given a very warm welcome.
Our last game of the 2024/25 Season is this Saturday when we host near-neighbours Burnham and tickets are on sale now.
