CCFL Premier Division North Sat 19 April The Rivermoor
Reading City

2-1

Saturday will see us open the turnstiles for the final time this season as Simon Johnson’s Cityzens welcome their Buckinghamshire counterparts Burnham to RG30 for the final 90!

Earlier this week the club featured in a community campaign delivered by Reading Borough Council, titled ‘Your West Reading’,  & we announced that’s it now even easier to find the Rivermoor thanks to our friends at Reading Buses.

Now we need the support of our local community more than ever. Every penny you spend on Saturday whether it’s just buying a match ticket or enjoying a nice, cold pint of locally produced Ding, Parka or Rivers from our friends at Double-Barrelled at the bar will raise vital funds to help with our operating costs during the summer months without football.

So come on down and support your local community football club.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION

Burnham Football Club, founded in 1878, is Buckinghamshire’s second oldest club. After early league success, they joined the Hellenic League in 1971, winning the Premier Division and League Cup in 1975/76. The club later competed in the Athenian and Southern Leagues, achieving promotion to the Southern League Premier Division in 2012/13.

In cup competitions, Burnham reached the FA Vase semi-finals in 1982/83 and the FA Cup first round in 2005/06. Recently, they won the 2023/24 Combined Counties League Cup. The club’s 1878 Stadium has been upgraded, including a new 3G pitch in 2021, and aims to foster local talent and community engagement.

HEAD TO HEAD

We are well acquainted with our near neighbours having clashed with them in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division and Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North in recent years.

Earlier this season when we took on Burnham at the 1878 Stadium, they narrowly beat us 2-1 ending a six-game undefeated run against our Buckinghamshire counterparts, prior to that they hadn’t beaten us since the October 29th 2019 when we clashed in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division at the 1878 Stadium.

And the two sides haven’t drawn since September 15th 2020 when we clashed in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division at the 1878 Stadium.

City come into this game having not played since Tuesday 8th April in which they lost 0-4 here at the Rivermoor to Bedfont Sports, Johnson will be hoping to end the season on a high in front of our loyal supporters.

Burnham were last in action on Tuesday evening so aren’t as well rested as the Cityzens, they come into this match on the back of a 3-1 defeat on the road to North Greenford United.
