Our Under 18s have had a fantastic inaugural Allied Counties Youth Football League campaign which has not only seen them be in with a chance of winning the Central Division but the Subsidiary Cup too as they enjoy a momentous run of 13 games unbeaten.
Now it all comes down to The Final Showdown, Johno and his side have one last hurdle to jump to get their hands on that coveted League Trophy and that hurdle comes in the form of our near-neighbours and local rivals Binfield who beat us at the very start of the season and will be looking to do the double over us.
We need your support more than ever on Tuesday night, come on down to the Rivermoor and cheer our youngsters on to victory so they clinch that well-deserved league title.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Binfield FC, founded in 1892, is one of the oldest football clubs, initially comprising local workers. The club enjoyed early success in the Ascot and District League, winning the Fielden Cup multiple times. During WWII, they joined the Great Western Combination League, winning the championship in 1947, and later moved to the Reading and District League, where they spent 40 years.
The club moved to Hill Farm Lane in 1980 and saw further success, winning titles in the Charrington Chiltonian League. A merger with Binfield Forest FC in 2001 expanded the club, fostering youth development. Over time, Binfield FC upgraded facilities and achieved FA Charter status.
Notably, they won the FTL Hellenic League Division 1 East in 2008-09 and reached the FA Vase Final at Wembley in 2021. Despite a challenging 2023/24 season, they narrowly escaped relegation after a mid-season management change.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Our youngsters have only faced the Moles once previously and that was at the beginning of this season as we began our inaugural Allied Counties Youth Football League campaign. That game narrowly ended in defeat for Johno’s side with the game finishing 3-2.
That was our youngsters first and only league defeat this season and are now an impressive thirteen games unbeaten in competitions. Johno’s side have had a bit of a wait for this clash due to previously scheduled meetings unfortunately being postponed and haven’t been in league action since the 10th April in which we held Penn & Tylers Green to a draw here at the Rivermoor.
Whilst our youngsters wait for the final showdown, they’ve been in subsidiary cup action and come into to Tuesday night’s game on the back of a 2-3 win on the road to Alton on the 14th April and come away topping the table of the Group Stage of the Cup.
Binfield haven’t enjoyed quite the same run of form and come into Tuesday night’s game on the back of a defeat in their Allied Counties Youth Football League Subsidiary Cup campaign, in which they were beaten 4-1 on the road to Walton & Hersham.
The Moles have not been in league action since the 20th March in which they beat Wokingham 2-1 at home.
