You may remember that earlier this season we told you that our Under 14 Athletic had won their Oxfordshire Youth Football League Division.

We are pleased to announce that yesterday at Loop Meadow Stadium, home to Didcot Town our youngsters added to their league win by securing the Under 14s Knockout Shield, which is effectively the Oxfordshire Youth Football League’s League Cup.

This is now the second consecutive season that Jethro, Neil and the boys have won the double having done it last season at Under 13s. An unbelievable achievement!

Those who had gathered at Loop Meadow were treated to an entertaining final as we faced Oxfordshire based Grove Challengers.

It was a strong performance from both sides throughout but our young Cityzens were able to edge the win.

In a cracking game, Our youngsters took the lead with a great goal to put us 1-0 up but Grove fought back to level with only minutes left. As we entered extra-time the lads really had to dig in to keep the score locked at 1-1 and it was eventually settled on penalties.

After a great save from our keeper and a miss from our opponents, put us in control and left it to Izzy to score our 4th to run out 4-2 Winners.

Speaking to a jubilant Jethro Johnstone (Under 14s Manager) after the game, he told us “It was a proper final and incredibly tight at 1-1 After Extra Time. This team give everything and this is another great league and cup double for the season.”

Neil Cotterell (Under 14s Athletic Assistant Manager) added: “I’m so proud of the boys. They never moan and always get on with it, they totally deserve all they have achieved this season.”

Club Chairman, Martin Law had this to say:  “After Jethro and Neil won the league, I had said that achieving back-to-back promotions is an incredible triumph. To follow that up with a consecutive double having won the league cup for another year, is phenomenal. A huge credit to Jethro, Neil and the boys who are making memories that will last a lifetime.

Every season, I am so proud when we see trophy after trophy being won by our Youth Section. It highlights the fantastic work being done throughout our Youth Academy to achieve moments like this. I’d like to take this oppurtunity to issue a heartfelt thank you to all our managers, coaches, parents and of course the players who dedicate their time to attend training in the week and at weekends to attend games, that dedication is key to our success.”
