Looking for your football fix? Well luckily for you our Under 18s can be of assistance as their season is far from over.
Already our most successful Under 18s side having won the Allied Counties Youth Football League Central Division, they are on the hunt for more silverware. The Allied Counties Youth Football League operates a ‘Champions Cup’ where all five divisional winners compete for the conveted title of Allied Counties Youth Football League Champions.
Johno and his youngsters have been drawn away to Camberley Town in the Semi Final and your support at Krooner Park will be much appreciated on Thursday evening.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Camberley Town Football Club was founded in 1895 as St Michael’s Football Club after a meeting at St Michael’s Church. Their first match was a win over a military team, and they joined the Surrey FA in 1896, winning the Surrey Junior Cup in 1897–98.
In 1901, the club merged with Camberley Magpies to form Camberley & Yorktown, enjoying local league success, including multiple titles and another Junior Cup win. They became founder members of the Surrey Senior League in 1922 and won three straight titles in the early 1930s.
After WWII, the club was renamed Camberley, and in 1967, after merging with Camberley Wanderers, they became Camberley Town. They played in various leagues including the Spartan, Athenian, and Isthmian Leagues, achieving promotion and later relegation.
Notably, Rick Wakeman served as chairman in the 1980s. The club reached the FA Cup first round in 1998–99, losing to Brentford. Since 2006, they’ve competed in the Combined Counties League, finishing as runners-up in 2013–14 and 2014–15.
HEAD TO HEAD
This will be our first competitive meeting against our Surrey Counterparts who were crowned Champions of the West Division having gone unbeaten all campaign with eleven wins and two draws.
Camberley will be coming into this game with the hope of making it a treble this season having won the Allied Counties Youth Football League’s League Cup last Thursday against Penn & Tylers Green, a game they won 4-0.
Johno’s side come into this game on the back of a rare defeat, following our narrow defeat to Risborough Rangers at home last Wednesday where the Semi-Final of the Allied Counties Youth Football Subsidiary Cup had to be settled on penalties, with our Buckinghamshire counterparts narrowly progressing with the shootout finishing 4-5.
In the last ever season for our current cohort of Under 18s, Johno and the lads will be looking to bag a second trophy but we know it will be a tough game.
