Our home and the hub of Reading’s football community, the Rivermoor Stadium, featured on the BBC’s daily breakfast programme earlier today.  Every morning 5 million viewers tune in to get the latest news, sport and weather amongst other items making it the UK’s most watched breakfast show.

As part of a BBC feature on the important role sports coaches are playing to tackle toxic masculinity. BBC Breakfast sent their Sports Correspondent, Katie Gornall to West Reading where they highlighted the important and life-changing work that club partner Raw Mentoring are doing from their base here at the Rivermoor Stadium.

Raw mentoring, led by Roddy Slater who has supported youngsters for over two decades, offers an enthusiastic team of mentors and trainers who are passionate about supporting students who struggle with mental health challenges, the education system or youth who need additional support and we’re delighted to offer them a safe space to operate in as they support children from across Reading and the Home Counties.

Their comprehensive programme combines fitness and music alongside mentoring and coaching techniques. With their personalised approach, they have the ability to successfully support early intervention with students who are at risk of temporary/permanent exclusion from school as well as rehabilitate the students who have been removed from mainstream education and progress them toward more productive behaviours.

It was a pleasure to welcome Katie & the BBC Breakfast Team along with Mark Gannon, CEO of UK Coaching to the Rivermoor.
