Over the last few years, Reading City and Basingstoke Town Football Club have developed a strong relationship with one another.

This strong relationship and sense of friendship has seen multiple players from Reading City progress to Basingstoke Town over the last 5 years alongside Basingstoke supporting us with loans and players from their academy.

We’re therefore delighted to welcome our near-neighbours and friends to the Rivermoor Stadium as Simon Johnson and Dan Brownlie look to prepare their sides for their respective campaigns.

This isn’t the first time that ‘Stoke will have played in West Reading. We kindly hosted our friends in the Emirates FA Cup during the 2020/21 Campaign when they faced Bournemouth FC in the Extra Preliminary Round.

We can’t wait to welcome them back to RG30 for what should be a fantastic evening of football.

Following the fixture being confirmed, we spoke to First Team Manager,  Simon Johnson and here’s what he had to say:

“Excited to be hosting our friends at Basingstoke. A fixture against a fantastic club that will really challenge us heading into the new season”.
