Reading City Football Club is delighted to announce that Liam Williams, will become the Club’s Disability Officer.
Liam initially joined the club ahead of the 2023/24 Season, to support our Media & Marketing Team and since joining has become a hard-working volunteer, after gaining experience coaching outside of Reading City, he is eager to build upon his skills and take on this new role alongside his other responsibilities.
With inclusivity being among our core values, we are already regarded as one of the most inclusive, community-based football clubs in the area we are delighted to see this appointment will build upon that.
Speaking on his new appointment, Liam Williams said:
“I am delighted to be stepping forward and guiding City on this new journey to inclusion. In the modern world, it is so important to give everyone the opportunity to play football. After working closely with Dan Rook at the CFA and attending The FA’s recent ‘Journey to Inclusion’ workshop myself and Martin have both been inspired. As a Club we want to ensure we deliver an action plan that inspires and nurtures disability football within our community.”
In an exciting new chapter for Reading City Football Club, The Cityzens have begun writing an implementing a disability action plan which will offer pan-disability football sessions available to children aged between 5-11 years, as part of the Football Association’s Comets Programme.
Sessions are designed to focus on helping them have fun, whilst building confidence, independence and social relationships. Comets provides an environment in which participants can feel safe and belong and steps outside the usual parameters with a bespoke, flexible way of playing. Because this is football that breaks all the old rules and lets children just be themselves.
Further details regarding the launch of our Comets Sessions will follow.
