Tuesday night will see our youngsters kick-off their FA Youth Cup campaign here at home, when we welcome near-neighbours and friends Basingstoke Town to the Rivermoor Stadium.
Please come along and support the next generation of Cityzens.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Founded in 1896 through a merger of Aldworth United and Basingstoke Albion, Basingstoke Town have a proud tradition in non-league football. After early success in the Hampshire League, they rose through the Southern and Isthmian Leagues, enjoying a golden spell in the late 1960s and early ’70s with three league titles and their first Hampshire Senior Cup. The club has a rich FA Cup pedigree, famously knocking out Wycombe Wanderers in 1997, and has won numerous county honours, including back-to-back Hampshire Senior Cups in 2023 and 2024. Recent years have seen Basingstoke regain momentum, winning the Isthmian South Central Division in 2023 and dominating the North Hampshire Senior Cup, lifting the trophy for the third straight year with a 6–0 win over Romsey Town in 2025.
HEAD TO HEAD
This will be the first competitive meeting between Reading City and Basingstoke Town.
Our first team did however play Stoke during their pre-season preparations and won 3-1, so Johno will be hoping that his side can repeat that on Tuesday evening.
