In the first of three consecutive home games, Simon Johnson will be looking to build on home advantage this November.
Saturday sees us welcome North Leigh to the Rivermoor Stadium, for only the second competitive tie between the two sides following the West Oxfordshire based side experiencing a fall from grace, having been promoted to Step 3 for the first time in their history at the end of the 2021/22 Season, they immediately returned to Step 4 at the end of the 2022/23 Season. The 2024/25 Season brought more woe for the Millers as they faced relegation to Step 5 for the first time in 17 years.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
North Leigh Football Club, founded in 1908, gained prominence after World War II, winning the Witney and District League Premier Division seven times in the 1950s and excelling in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup. In the 1980s, they secured five consecutive Witney League titles, earning promotion to the Hellenic League. The club enjoyed strong performances, winning the Premier Division title in 2001/02 and retaining it in 2002/03. Despite ground limitations preventing promotion, they had notable FA Vase and FA Cup runs, including reaching the FA Vase last 32 in 2003/04 and a memorable FA Cup run in 2004/05.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
The Cityzens are no strangers to the Millers, having faced-off in Friendlies in recent years. However, Saturday is only the second time the two clubs have met competively, the first of which was during our Highmoor Ibis era, when we welcomed North Leigh to the Rivermoor in the 2017/18 Emirates FA Cup campaign in a Preliminary Round clash with the Millers progressing with a 1-3 win.
Coming into this game, the Cityzens have returned to winning ways and come into this game full of confidence having secured back-to-back wins against Holyport, 0-3 and 5-1. Tuesday’s win at home not only marked the first time we’d done the double over a side this season, but also our highest scoring game of the campaign and with Jay Herbert and Ousman Darboe opening their goalscoring account for the season, there was plenty to celebrate.
City have only lost one game in fourteen and are steadily climbing the Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North table.
North Leigh however are not enjoying the same level of form and come into this weekend’s game on the back of two consecutive defeats, the most recent of which was on Tuesday evening when they narrowly lost 3-2 on the road to Harefield United, they’ll therefore be looking to get back to winning ways as November gets underway.
