Dave who has recently announced his retirement from the game, having most recently played for near-neighbours Marlow has enjoyed a remarkable career with three promotions, a fantastic FA Cup run which he also broke some goalscoring records. He also achieved what every player dreams off and that’s to turn professional, at the age of 27 he was signed by Barnet.
Dave has also played for Bracknell Town, Basingstoke Town, Woking as well as having spells with Farnborough and Hampton & Richmond Borough among others. He is probably however most known for his time at Maidenhead United, where he is regarded as a legend having scored 44 goals to help the Magpies achieve promotion to the Vanarama National League in 2017.
We are thrilled to have Dave join Simon Johnson’s backroom team. His decision to join Reading City not only shows just how far we have a come as a club to be able to attract one of the finest players to ever play in the local non-league scene, but his experience of playing throughout the football pyramid will help us push on and inspire our young players.
We spoke to Simon Johnson about his newest addition to his backroom team and here’s what he had to say:
“It’s an absolute pleasure to have someone with Dave’s experience join our management team. His game and tactical understanding is excellent and something that has already supported us.
His experience will be invaluable as he works with our forward players to pass on his knowledge, as well as supporting the rest of the group as well. We’re really excited to see what he can bring to the table.
Welcome Tarps.”
