Simon Johnson’s team of Cityzens are back in action this Saturday, and are set to welcome Milton United to the Rivermoor for the second time this season, however this time as part of their league campaign.
We enter off the back of a narrow 3-2 defeat on the road to Broadfields United, whilst our opposition arrive from a 3-0 defeat to Egham Town, who we have also faced recently.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION – With reference to FCHD.info
Milton United, first founded as Milton Hill, entered Step 6 of the pyramid ahead of the 1989/1990 season, taking part in Division One of the Hellenic League, and subsequently gained promotion to the Premier Division that season after finishing second out of sixteen teams. The club earned the title the following season based on goal difference, narrowly beating Fairford Town, and won additional silverware in the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup.
In 1994, Milton were unfortunately demoted to Division One due to a lack of floodlights, but regained promotion following the conclusion of the 1998/99 campaign. The team experienced a range of ups and downs over the next fifteen years, fluctuating between Division One and the Premier divisions of Hellenic League football. Upon relegation back from the top tier, the club switched from the Western tier of Division One over to the Eastern tier.
Five years later, Milton were victorious in the playoffs and gained promotion into Step 5 of the pyramid, joining the Combined Counties League in 2023/24.
Currently, with six wins from sixteen, Milton sit in twelfth position with a tally of 22 points.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
This fixture will only be the third time we’ve faced Milton in the league, however we have met with the Miltonians in cup competitions such as the Isuzu FA Vase, and the Berks and Bucks FA Senior Cup. Our record against the opposition is somewhat mixed, with two wins and three losses from our last five meetings.
In our most recent tie, an overwhelming 5-1 victory in favour of the visiting side saw them progress into the next round of the cup. Similarly, in 2022, our Cityzens narrowly lost out after a penalty shootout.
