Reading City Football Club is committed to ensuring that we deliver a football club that’s enjoyable for all regardless of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, ability or disability, faith or age.

We believe that sport should be everyone’s game and therefore will continue to fight for LGBT+ inclusion in football and eliminate discrimination from the game.

Statistics have shown that the majority of football fans have heard homophobic abuse when attending games, and the message from Reading City is clear – abuse is harmful to individuals and it’s harmful to our club, and it is not acceptable in any form.

Our Media & Public Relations Manager and Rainbow Laces Ambassador Ryan Sheehan had this to say:

“As a member of the LGBT+ Community myself, it’s great to see Reading City Football Club committed to delivering a football club that’s enjoyable for all. We have a real family ethos here at Reading City Football Club which allowed me to feel comfortable enough to tell those I work with that I was gay without any fear of reprisal.

I want to welcome members of the LGBT+ community from across Reading and Berkshire to our club and have recently launched the Reading City FC LGBT+ Supporters Network. Reading City Football Club stands with the LGBT+ Community”

12 million people in Britain saw the campaign in November 2018, including 34% of all sport fans, and more importantly, Rainbow Laces has helped foster positive attitudes towards LGBT people in sport.

Football has the power to bring communities together, and therefore we are asking fans to show their support for equal rights, Stonewall and their Rainbow Laces campaign.
