Charlie York or Chaz as he’s affectionately known as within the camp, hails from Henley-on-Thames and initially joined the Cityzens in December 2018, making him one of our longest-serving players.
He has been our first choice shot-stopper ever since, despite predominantly playing in goal Charlie York can also play outfield as a Left Winger.
When he’s not playing in goal for the Cityzens he works as a joiner. He likes to prepare for a game by chilling out and putting an optimistic accumulator on.
Charlie is a big Oxford United fan and revealed that legendary shot-stopper Manuel Neuer was his favourite player. He also revealed to us that his Dad is his biggest influence on his footballing career and prior to joining the Cityzens, he enjoyed spells at Aldershot Town Academy, Binfield, Eversley & California, Henley Town and the Wycombe Wanderers Academy.
His best footballing achievement is having spent more than five years playing Academy Football. In his time at Wycombe Wanderers, Chaz played with Matt Ingram who is now plying his trade in the Championship with Charlie’s beloved Oxford United, it’s no surprise to therefore learn that he regards Matt Ingram as the best player he’s ever played with.
His best footballing memory was two tours to Holland whilst in the ranks at Wycombe Wanderers and revealed the best ground he’s ever played at was PSV Eindhoven’s training ground.
When we asked Charlie who the best player was that he ever played against he told us that there were too many to remember. Charlie also regards First Team Manager, Simon Johnson as the best manager he has played for.
Charlie told us if he didn’t play football he’d be on the golf course instead. We also learnt that when it comes to his taste in music, he doesn’t have a particular favourite genre and instead likes all sorts. He also told us his favourite food was steak.
