Lennox has been our Development Squad Manager since the team was established in 2020.
Lennox mainly played on the right-wing in his playing days, however he told us that he only played football at a minimal level locally due to his work commitments on a Saturday. When he wasn’t at work or playing football, Lennox was a member of the Reading Athletics Club and has competed in 100, 200 and 400 meters.
Lennox became more involved in football as his son’s started to play for a local team, he attended all their training sessions and games and decided that he wanted to get more involved with the coaching and management side of the game.
In 2009 he then set up his own football club called Reading Pumas, otherwise known as Pumas, which created a team for his two sons who were aged 7 and 8 at the time. The Pumas were well respected in the Berkshire area as they quickly gained a reputation for playing an attractive brand of football.
In their inaugural season they won their first trophy in the Berkshire Youth Development League, this put them on the road to success as they continued to impress season after season, as shown below:
2009/2010 BYDL Cup winners
2011/2012 BYDL Cup winners
2012/2013 BYDL Cup winners
2012/2013 BYDL Division 1 winners
2013/2014 Berks & Bucks cup finalist.
2013/2014 The Slough & Windsor Open Challenge Trophy
2015/2016 Berks & Bucks Cup winners
2015/2016 Champions of Champions winners in Peterborough.
Over the years the pumas have won many small-sided tournaments near and far from Westwood Wanderers and Barton Rovers to Sandhurst Town and Hillingdon. The pumas have also attracted some of the best young footballers in the area over the years who have later gone on to sign professional contracts at Reading, Swindon and Chelsea.
Lennox prides himself on developing players and in his own words believes that:
“all players are coachable unless they’re your sons if your coaching them”.
