Sheldon is no stranger to the Rivermoor having been a part of the coaching set-up with our friends at Woodley United in which he was both the First Team Coach and Head of Recruitment during the 2022/23 Season.

Sheldon is however most notably known for managing FC BAPCO who compete in the Premier Division of the Reading & District Sunday League since being formed in 2021 by his brother Shandon & his friends former Cityzen Mckoy Palmer & Junaid Bell. Prior to that Sheldon was involved in Kensington Athletic who also competed in the Reading & District Sunday League between 2013 and 2017.

In FC BAPCO’s inaugural 2021/22 Campaign, Sheldon led them to an unprecedented treble in which they won the Berks & Bucks FA Sunday Cup, the Tilehurst Charity Cup & the Reading & Sunday League Premier Division League Title undefeated. They have gone on to win the League back-to-back for three consecutive seasons.

Competing at the top of their game, FC BAPCO have also competed in the FA Sunday Cup which is the nationwide knockout competition for Sunday League teams, making their debut during the 2023/24 where they got as far as the last sixteen.

Recent success has seen them win the Berks & Bucks FA Sunday Cup and Tilehurst Charity Cup in 2023/24.

Sheldon has a vast knowledge of players in the local Reading area so his arrival as a Cityzen is a very exciting time for our Under 23s and the club’s overall development as the Under 23s provides a pathway to the First Team complimented by our Development Squad and Under 18s.

Club Chairman, Martin Law had this to say:

“As a new chapter opens for our Under 23s. We are all very excited to welcome Sheldon to the club.

Sheldon is not just passionate about football, but is also an advocate for grassroots football. The culture he has implemented at FC BAPCO where they are as professional as can be, with their attitude and winning along with building a group of players that are respectful towards one another and pushing in the same direction aligns perfectly with what we are trying to achieve here at Reading City.

His appointment is testament to the hard work going on at the club, both on and off the pitch to make our brand a reputable one. Sheldon has a proven rich pedigree when it comes to coaching and as a club it shows we can attract top talent both within our playing squads and coaching teams.”

Simon Johnson, Head Coach & First Team Manager had this to say:

“Sheldon is someone who has won week in, week out in Sunday football. He’s a great manager with fantastic man management skills that can contribute to attracting the top talent in Reading to the club. It’s a pleasure to have him with us for the next season. Welcome Sheldon.”
