After weeks of pre-season preparation, our Under 23’s 2024/25 season kicks off with a home game against local side Woodcote FC, with Sheldon and his squad battling to claim all three points on Opening Day.

Sheldon’s first competitive game in charge is also special for another reason, as the game will take place at the Rivermoor, the typical ground of our First Team. This only occurs on a few occasions each season, due to clashes with other City fixtures. Our Under 23’s play the majority of their home games at the Atrium, which sits adjacent to the Rivermoor.

Further on in the season, our Under 23’s will face Westwood Wanderers, which will be the second of the home fixtures to be held at the Rivermoor. These matches give his side the opportunity to show their talent on the main stage, with the chance to relish the home atmosphere to boost their confidence for the games that follow.

Admission fees for both matches are:

  • Adults: £3
  • Concession: £1

We spoke to Sheldon ahead of the match, asking him to sum up his thoughts on the new challenge and the chance to play at the Rivermoor:

Q: How does it feel to have the opportunity to play your first competitive fixture as Under 23’s Manager at the Rivermoor?

A: It’s a moment I will cherish as it’s my first competitive game as a manager within the Saturday pyramid of Football.

Q: Would you say there will be more pressure felt as your side will be playing at the First Team ground rather than the Atrium? Is there a difference in how you’ll plan for the game?

A: I think the players will be buzzing – a game under the lights to kick the season off. Furthermore it strengthens our commitment in creating a clear pathway from the 23’s into the first team. It gives everyone a taste of what is on the other side if you work hard and perform consistently. As for the game plan it’s pretty straight forward: we go and get the 3 points.
