“It doesn’t feel like that long ago we were walking out at the rivermoor to take on Exeter City looking to reach the 2nd Round proper for the 2nd time in our history. Ultimately we came up short in extra time but we pushed another pro side all the way yet again.
We have now lost narrowly to pro clubs in 3 of the last 4 FA Youth Cup competitions but it is the memories made on the journey to, and the atmosphere at these games that we all look back on and the players remember so fondly.
Tonight we start another journey and the partnership between Reading City and JMA further strengthens as tonight’s squad is a blend of both JMA U18 players (including Benham, Nualart, Moore etc from last season) and Reading City’s current U18 squad.
John and Lee did a fantastic job last season with a very young group side and will certainly have a strong season again. I am delighted that they will also be in the dugout this season.
Whilst on the subject of last season, it is great to see that Charlie Davies and Bobbi Emery have progressed in to the 1st team set up with Bobbi shining in their opening league game last week. Also, Emil Mursalov who recently spent time at Burnley and is not available this week due to trialling at Premier League side, Crystal Palace. I’m sure you’ll all join me in wishing him the best of luck.
Who knows what this season’s journey will bring for us but we are excited to get going and look forward to welcoming Marlow tonight.
Up the citeh!”
