Nearly time for weekly action, and tomorrow afternoon, our young Cityzens will be hoping to add another three points to their tally after their comprehensive 2-1 victory at home against Wargrave last weekend. Our opposition will be entering this game on a high, following their 3-1 victory against Reading YMCA, where substitute Brandon Sewell netted two in ten minutes to secure the win.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION:
AFC Winkfield entered the Thames Valley Premier League at the start of the 2020/21 campaign, joining from the East Berks League. In this season, they gained promotion to Division Two, after finishing third position, with thirteen wins in twenty. They gained consecutive promotion for the next two seasons, placing as runners-up in both seasons, behind Hambleden and Hurst respectively.
This will be Winkfield’s second season in the Premier Division, finishing tenth out of twelve places in 2023/24, with five wins from twenty-two.
Currently, with seven victories in sixteen games, AFC Winkfield sit in tenth position, with twenty-three points.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Our Under 23s have faced AFC Winkfield on four occasions prior to our league meeting this Saturday, including three Thames Valley Premier League fixtures and one cup feature.
Our home clash was last held down at the Atrium, in which our Cityzens were ahead at the interval, but unfortunately lost out after a positive second half from our then-visitors, ending in a 3-2 loss.
During our Berkshire Trophy Centre Senior Cup run last year, we tied with AFC Winkfield down at the King George V Playing Field in September. An eight goal thriller saw us exit the competition in the first round, with a 7-1 scoreline in favour of Winkfield.
