After last week’s RGClasico win at home to Wokingham which saw us comfortably dispatch our local rivals 5-0 to cruise to the top of the Allied Counties Youth Football League Central Division. Johno’s side turn their attention back to their Subsidiary Cup campaign which has seen them win on the road in Surrey & Oxfordshire, they’ll be hoping to add Hampshire to that list with Yateley United tonight’s destination.
It may have been a chilly spring evening at Sean Devereux Park but things soon heated up out on the pitch in the first competitive meeting between these two sides.
With less than quarter of an hour played, we had the first two goals of the game as our hosts took the lead, no doubt trying to extend their unbeaten record at home to three games, but Sam Waller who wears the armband this evening, made a captain’s contribution to put us back level immediately after, as City look to maintain their unbeaten run.
After a fast start, the game fizzled out a bit with all play in the middle of the park as both sides strived to take the lead.
HALF TIME: Yateley United 1 v Reading City 1
With the second half back underway, both sides once against battled it midfield as they both wanted to break the deadlock and get in front.
As we past the hour mark, Adam Goodwin broke the deadlock to give City the lead for the first time all game.
Shortly after, Johno called upon the bench to make his first change of the evening with captain, Jay Herbert who featured for the first team last night coming on in place of Joe Corker.
With just ten minutes of time remaining. Johno called upon his bench once again and replaced Archie Simpson with Charlie Johnson.
FULL TIME: Yateley United 1 v Reading City 2
The Subsidiary Cup operates in a similar fashion to the UEFA Champions League, which means our youngsters initially play 4 games and if we finish in the top 8, we’ll qualify for the quarter finals. Having won three of our four group stage matches, City will be well on their way to reaching the quarter finals.
That’s now 11 games unbeaten in all competitions for our youngsters.
Our attention now switches back to the Allied Counties Youth Football League where we’ll host Penn & Tylers Green in our penultimate league match next Thursday.
